THE NEWPORT NARRATIVE EP1

 The Newport Narrative

Well helllooo people after a couple years away I am BACK making content football manager content once again, not to sound too much like Troy Mcclure but you may remember me from previous names as Badjokesgaming or Taylormadegaming but nowadays I'm going by the name SHCOMMS on twitter.

I've done a bit of everything content wise since I started making Football Manager videos back in 2017 which that being NINE years ago is terrifying because it feels like yesterday, however It's been just over three years since my last series ended on Youtube and for the most part I thought like I was done with making content for FM as I just didn't have the time as I found a new hobby which was filling the hole that FM content used to.

That hobby is football commentary and vlogs covering the Cymru South & Ardal South East. Thanks to getting involved with Cymru Sport I've been able to visit some lovely parts of Wales, have some brilliant experiences like commentating on the 24/25 Welsh Cup final & the 24/25 & 25/26 Bute Energy (Welsh Womens Cup) finals. I've also met so many amazing people doing so much good work in a league system that doesn't get anywhere near enough publicity or support that I've now made it my life mission to do what I can to get more eyes on the leagues here in wales.

One of the clubs I have really enjoyed covering is Newport City (yes City not County) Sam Holdsworth has been Mr Newport City for the last ten years as he has been manager and key man behind the scenes as the club has risen from finishing twelth in tier four back in 18/19 to recorind a third place finish in the Cymru South in 24/25 & they were a lot of peoples second choince picks for promotion in 25/26 but the club had a dissapointing second half of the season and ended up in tenth spot in the league.

That finish combined with Sam taking up a new job as Newport County CEO whilst remaining behind the scenes with City means that as the 26/27 season is about to kick off City have a managerial vacancy but as a legendary Spencer once said May I suggest that you remove the sign saying 'situation vacant' and replace it with one saying 'situation full'—I'm your man.

Comedy Icon Spencer from Pheonix Nights

With that amazing self belief and comedy knowledge Sam had no choice but to hand over keys to the dugout to myself so with that I am now offically the new manager of Newport City!!

On my first day in the job the squad looks a little bit like this, with our highest rated and most payed player being Keanu Marsh-Brown who with a wage of £280pw really does need to be the one to lead us to promtion. Connor Smith a 21 year old centre back looks really good aswell but, the player I'm most excited to use is the striker Sam Johnson as IRL he has scored eleven in his last five games including three hat tricks in a row so if we can get Sam to replicate that form in game we will surely be close to promotion.

KMB's profile is interesting as technially he is a step above most other players in the league but his physicals are SHOCKING  as at the age of thirty-three he has pace and acceleration of ten so he can run quickly but with stamina of FOUR he cant run fast for long for that reason I'll be using him as an attacking midfielder but trying to limit how much he actually has to move.

Looking at KMB's playing history is fascinating as he's been all over the world and surely moving from the Maldives to Newport has to be the biggest culture shock Brown will experince in his life.

Connor Smith is a five foot 11 center back with 10 heading, 12 anticipation and 13 Natural Fitness so he should be a really good player at this level and at just 21 years old he could be one to keep as we hopefully progress into the Cymru Prem.

Man of the moment Sam Johnson will be getting used as centre forward but I'll be trying to limit his dribbling as i think he could be better just getting the ball in the box and smashing it into the back of the net. I do need to have a word with whoever has given Sam a 1 (ONE) for long shots as that feels criminal to me. Sam does have good pyshicals which might hopefully make up for the awful long shots.

Season Prediction

Much like last year we go into the season among the favourites to win the title with only Careau Ely who finshed forth last year and Aberystwyth sixth last year ahead of us in the media prediction so coud this be the year we make the jump up to the Cymru Prem?

The board seem to agree with that prediction and are wanting me to guide the club to the promtion playoff at least which would mean us finishing in the top two as the champions go up automatically and second place plays whoever finishes in the same spot in the Cymru North

THE MISSION

Welsh Football has been under a one club monopoly for the majority of the last fifteen years as TNS have won thirteen of the last fifteen top flight trophies. Despite all that domestic success TNS have only made it past the european qualifying rounds once in 24/25 when they qualified for the conference league league stage.

That means that currently Wales have the second lowest coefficient in the whole of europe, the only country lower than us is San Marino so that needs to be changed, while this wont be a build a nation per se I'm hoping that if we can get into the Cymru Prem and compete with TNS we can get into europe and build up that coefficient to a place where more teams can take part in european football.
So the main aim is to make Newport City the biggest club in Wales but as a side effect of that if more teams get into europe and TNS aren't so dominant that would be WONDERFUL!!
